    பேரண்டம் (Universe) உருவாகிய 'பிக்பாங்' கணத்தை ஒரு கணிதச் சமன்பாட்டின் மூலமாக நிரூபிப்பதற்கு இயற்பியலாளர்கள் முயல்கின்றனர்.பிக்பாங் வெடிப்பின் கணத்தைக் 'கடவுளின் கணம்' என்று சொல்வார்கள்.அண்டத்தைப் படைத்தது கடவுள் என்றால், அவர் அதை ஒரு கணிதச் சமன்பாட்டின் மூலமாகத்தான் படைத்திருக்க வேண்டும். 'The whole Universe is nothing but mathematical equations'. கண்டுபிடிக்கவே முடியாது என்று நினைத்திருந்த அந்தக் கணிதச் சமன்பாடு, 'ஸ்ட்ரிங் தியரி' என்னும் ஒரு கோட்பாட்டின் மூலம் கண்டுபிடிக்கப்படும் நிலைக்கு வந்தது. அணுமுதல்,அண்டம் வரை இசைக்கருவிகளில் இருக்கும் இழைகள் (Strings) போல அதிர்ந்து கொண்டிருக்கின்றன என்று ஸ்ட்ரிங்க் தியரி சொல்கிறது. நவீன இயற்பியலில் இந்தப் பேரண்டம் முழுவதுமே ஒரு சிம்ஃபனி (Symphony) போல இசை வடிவம் பெற்றிருக்கிறது. இதை விளக்குவதுதான் ஸ்ட்ரிங் தியரியாகும். ஸ்ட்ரிங் தியரி மூலம் மொத்தமாக ஐந்து வெவ்வேறு கணிதச் சமன்பாடுகள் கண்டுபிடிக்கப்பட்டன. ஆனால் உண்மையில் இருக்க வேண்டியது ஒரே ஒரு கணிதச் சமன்பாடு மட்டுமே. எப்போதும் உண்மை என்பது ஒன்றாகத்தான் இருக்க முடியும். ஒரு சிக்கலுக்குத் தீர்வாக ஐந்து உண்மைகள் இருக்க முடியாது. எதற்காக ஐந்து கணிதச் சமன்பாடுகள் உருவாகின என்பதை ஆராய்ந்தனர். அப்போது 'எம் தியரி' என்னும் புதுக் கோட்பாடு பிறந்தது.
    எம் தியரியின் மூலம் நமது அண்டம், நாம் இதுவரை நினைத்தது போல மூன்று பரிமாணங்களைக் கொண்டதல்ல, அதைவிட அதிக பரிமாணங்களை உடையது என்ற சந்தேகம் தோன்றியது. ஸ்ட்ரிங் தியரியால் கண்டுபிடிக்கப்பட்ட ஐந்து சமன்பாடுகளும் ஐந்து வெவ்வேறான பரிமாணங்களுக்குச் சொந்தமானவை என்ற முடிவுக்கு இந்தச் சந்தேகம் இட்டுச் சென்றது. இதைத் தொடர்ந்து ஆராய்ந்ததில், ஏற்கனவே அண்டவெளிக்குச் (Space) சொந்தமான மூன்று பரிமாணங்களுடன், காலம்(Time) ஒரு பரிமாணமாக எடுக்கப்பட்டு நான்கு பரிமாணமாகியது. அவற்றுடன் ஸ்ட்ரிங் தியரியின் ஐந்து பரிமாணங்களும் சேர்ந்து ஒன்பது பரிமாணங்களாகின. பின்னர் மேலதிக இரண்டு பரிமாணங்கள் சேர்க்கப்பட்டு பதினொரு பரிமாணங்கள் அண்டத்துக்கு உண்டு என்ற முடிவுக்கு இயற்பியலாளர்கள் வந்தார்கள். இதில் 'சிறப்பு ஈர்ப்புவிசை' (Super Gravitational force) பதினோராவது பரிமாணமாகும்.　


    மனிதனால் மூன்று பரிமாணங்களில் மட்டும்தான் பிரயாணம் செய்ய முடியும்.அதற்கு மேலே உள்ள பரிமாணங்களைக் கற்பனை கூடச் செய்ய முடியாது.உதாரணமாக 'க்யூப்' (Cube) என்று சொல்லப்படும் முப்பரிமானச் சதுரப் பெட்டியை நீங்கள் கண்டிருப்பீர்கள். அது போல, நான்கு பரிமாணமுள்ள'ஹைப்பர் க்யூப்' (Hypercube) என்பதையும் வடிவமைத்திருக்கிறார்கள். ஆனால் ஹைப்பர் க்யூபின் வடிவம் இதுதான் என்று உங்களால் முடிவுக்கு வரமுடியாதபடி அதன் வடிவம் அமைந்திருக்கும். 'க்யூப்' (Cube) என்னும் பெயரில் ஹாலிவூட்டின் ஒரு ஆங்கிலத் திரைப்படம் வெளிவந்தது. அந்தப் படம் வெற்றிபெற அதன் இரண்டாம் பகுதியை 'ஹைபர் க்யூப்' (Hypercube)என்னும் பெயரில் எடுத்திருக்கிறார்கள். இந்த இரண்டு படங்களையும் நீங்கள் பார்க்கும் போது ஹைபர் க்யூப் என்பது பற்றிய ஒரு புரிதல் உங்களுக்கு உருவாகலாம்.　

    நாம் இருக்கும் அண்டம் பதினொரு பரிமாணங்களைக் கொண்டது என்று சொல்லப்படுவது ஒரு கோட்பாடாகத்தான் எடுக்கப்படுகிறது.நிரூபிக்கப்படாமல் இருக்கும் உண்மைக்குச் சமீபமான முடிவுகள் கோட்பாடுகள் (Theory) எனப்படும். ஆனால் நிரூபிக்கபட்ட உண்மைகள் விதிகள் (Law) எனப்படும். விதிகள் அனைத்தும் (தலைவிதியல்ல) கணிதச் சமன்பாடுகளால் நிரூபிக்கப்பட்டவை. கணிதச் சமன்பாடுகள் என்றுமே உண்மையானவை. மாறாத தண்மை கொண்டவை. இயற்பியலும்,கணிதவியலும் இணைந்து பல விதிகளை உருவாக்கியிருக்கின்றன.நியூட்டனால் சொல்லப்பட்டவை விதிகளாக, கணிதச் சமன்பாடுகளாக இன்றுவரை மாறாமல் இருக்கின்றன. அதுபோல, பதினொரு பரிமாணங்கள் அண்டத்தில் உள்ளன என்பதும் கோட்பாடாக இருந்தாலும், அது ஒரு கணிதச் சமன்பாட்டில் பொருந்தி விதியாக மாறும் சாத்தியம் உண்டு.
